The Jolly Farmer Case Study

The Jolly Farmer is a pub located in Warsash on the south coast.

Originally farm cottages, the Jolly Farmer became a pub in 1835. In 2014 local business woman, Sarah Cooper and her husband Frank bought the pub from Martin O’Grady who had owned the pub since the 1980s.

Sarah met with Daniel, from NetPay's sales team, who reviewed their incumbent providers’ statement and identified where savings could be made.

They also considered updating the technology and discussed using Bluetooth payment terminals. This would enable staff to move around with the card payment terminals to take payments at the tables rather than asking customers to come up to the bar to pay for their meals, to give their customers a better overall experience.

The Challenge

As landlords Sarah and Frank, set about reinvigorating the look of the pub giving it a makeover, doubling the size of the bar and updating the décor they knew that it was important to have the ability to take payments by card and wanted to get the best deal possible.

    As the pub has grown in size, the number of food covers we can deliver have also increased. It was important for us to get the best deal on taking card payments as the number of payments made by card is on these rise. We needed to reduce our costs without missing out on sales”.

    The Solution

    The previous owners used Barclaycard Payments services, but upon reviewing their merchant services statement it became apparent that costs could be saved and that the business was not getting the best deal for these services.

      Sarah met with Daniel from the NetPay sales team who reviewed their incumbent providers’ statement and identified where savings could be made.

        Daniel also recommended Bluetooth payment terminals, enabling staff to move around with the device to take payments rather than just take them at the bar.
